Hey Sacramento,
I decided to launch Smudge Nail Bar because I envisioned an inclusive space for individuals to receive self care in a safe, hygienic, and vibrant environment. As an ICU nurse of 21+ years, one of my many mottos is: "Skin is the largest organ in the body and shouldn't be ignored."
Sacramento has a dense, rich art scene that is palpable at every turn. Smudge decided early that the community of Sacramento will be present in the space through art, captivating events, and other local expressions.

Roberta attended a local women’s business retreat when an enthusiastic, young Muslim woman asked if she was going to carry Halal certified breathable polish (Wudu friendly). Once the ladies started to chat, it was evident that a large population of women in Sacramento didn’t have options for Halal certified breathable polish. Breathable polishes allow oxygen and water to penetrate to the nail bed--in turn making it Wudu friendly. Roberta trialed several breathable polish brands over a course of time. VIVRE was the winner with the best wearability, and the relationship was forged.
